Action Research (AR) is a way of solving problems by taking action while doing research in real time. Teachers participate in changing their classrooms through inquiry, reflection, and dialogue. They develop their skills in the methods of action research. They also instinctively develop the habit of reflecting on the consequences of their own assumptions with the goal of improving learning outcomes.

Being critical of their own teaching is an important part of what S.M.A.R.T. teachers do. We usually do not think of teachers allowing their colleagues and students to offer constructive criticism of their classroom activities. However, this is precisely what we encourage. Teachers and students are the most important stakeholders, who participate in the dynamic construction of learning. We believe that a critical, self-reflective process leads to better outcomes. Therefore, the classroom becomes an actual laboratory where the teaching-learning process is analyzed in the context of a global economy. Teaching is both an art and a science, especially when strategic, research-based methods are utilized.
My Smart Teacher, LLC was founded with globally-thinking teachers in mind. The brainchild of Dr. L. Paul Lawson, a Jamaican-born, progressive educator with over 35 years experience involving research, curriculum and instruction, and organizational leadership. Dr. Lawson recognizes the untapped connection and unexplored potential among teachers around the world. Preparing their students in a global economy means adopting new ways of engaging each other and sharing ideas beyond those offered in teacher-training institutions.
S.M.A.R.T. teachers are collaborative, creative, and critical about their own work. They do not leave it up to the so-called ‘experts’ to tell them how they should teach. Using action research, they are empowered by resources within their own classrooms and find ways to involve students and colleagues in the creation of highly-successful teaching strategies.
